Happy 2 Year Anniversary

Yes I can't believe it but its true. Today marks two years since I met Frank. I'm so happy that our paths crossed two years ago at the University of Nairobi...though we both seem to dissagree on the exact time we met - he thinks its earlier, I disagree. But details aren't all that important. Am happy that I was able to go back to Kenya and give our relationship a chance. It was a risk to go back after only knowing eachother for 2 months but a risk well worth taking. I only hope that we will be back together in the same location sooner than later.

MUGGED BY GANGTERS:

Yes thats right. I had my first encounter with Kenyan Gangters on Saturday night. Thankfully I survived the incident and was left uninjured. Frank and I had gone out for dinner then a movie. After the movie we walked to Archives to catch a matutu home (at around 10:45pm). This is a normal thing for him and me so I didn't suspect anything. The mat took some time to fill as town was quite quiet. Anyways we reached home shortly after 11pm. The matatu dropped me at the stage close to home then it drove away. We had to wait to cross the road as another car was coming. As it passed I noticed two men walking towards us from a distance. It was quite dark as the street lights were not working (a very common occurance). Anyways we started to cross the road. I was keeping a close eye on them when they started to separate (a clear indicator that they are up to no good). Anyways one (maybe both) of them pulled a gun (can only remember one of them with a gun, but the other could have had). They asked us for our cell phones in kiswahilli. So we gave them out. But asked if we could keep our sim cards as they have all our messages and numbers stored. Then they casually asked us for money. Then told us to walk away as they walked away in the other direction. It was really weird because they didn't seem to be in a hurry and were quite casual about the whole thing - didn't even take my purse, just asked me to remove the phone and money. REally strange. Thankfully both Frank and I were not hurt and we lost only the phones a small amount of money (about $30 between the 2 of us). Am so angry that my main for of communication here has been taken away from me and I only have 2 weeks left. But my life is more important than a cell phone.

Mombasa Trip Part 2:

So after returning from Mombasa last Wednesday I spent 1 night in Nairobi before heading back to Mombasa. Thankfully this trip was to a different part of Mombasa (actually to the South, was in the North before) to a place called Diani Beach. Frank and I left at 10:30pm on the night Coast bus. Left with little trouble, though walking to the train station we ran into 2 police officers and they were giving me quite the look - glad I always carry my Kenyan Alien Certificate with me. But they didn't stop us. Our bus stopped for about 30minutes half way at Mtito Andei. We reached Mombasa by 6:30am. We didn't have to arrange return tickets as I had done that during my shopping trip earlier in the week with Bernard. So we hopped into a matatu to the Likoni Ferry. Took the ferry across the chanel and arrived at the main land south of Mombasa Island. From there we took a mat to Ukunda then another one to Diani Beach which dropped us at the gate for our hotel, LTI-Kaskazi. THis was my 3rd visit to the hotel. I love all-inclusives. We checked in and had breakfast before being taken to our room. We got ready and headed to the pool. Took a small walk down the beach. Saw sooooo many crabs - but they were more scared of us then us of them. Tried taking some photos with little luck. In the afternoon we went shopping only to find all the shops had closed at lunch time due to the Good Friday holiday. Shopping had to wait until Saturday morning. So in the morning on Saturday we went shopping. Bought to ebony carvings of a masai man and woman. Also did some grocery shopping for the room. Spent the rest of the day by the pool with an hour swim in the ocean once the tide came in at around 3pm. AT night it was crazy hot. Thought I was going to faint in the heat. The humidity was incredible. Sunday was a relaxing day at the hotel. Being Easter Sunday it was just a day to relax. Another swim in the ocean, but the waves were incredible - really enjoyed. Almost knocked the swimming costume off. The dinner at night was a big gala dinner for eater - but no ham. Missed it for Easter. Headed to bed early as we were heading back to Nairobi on Monday morning. Left the hotel on Monday at 7:15am. Reached the coast bus office by 8:30am only to have the bus show up late and we didn't leave Mombasa until 10am. WAs so annoyed as the heat was almost unbearable. We reached Nairobi at 6:30pm. journey was good ast the air conditioner on the bus was actually working as opposed to the other times I've taken the bus. Scarlett can attest to that. Another relaxing trip to mombasa. The weather is so cold and rainy in Nairobi that I'm sure the tan I worked so hard to get will fade before the time I get home. Sorry guys - living on the equator doesn't mean an endless tan as we all may think. Safari Safi.
